Universal resume: is it worth doing?

Recently, the so-called universal CV has become increasingly common. There may be a general request, without any specifics - a director or a line manager without any indication of what or where the person is going to head, and some average skills and achievements suitable for all sectors and many areas. The question is - why should they do that? The candidates answer that they think that in this way they increase their chances, as they will be able to satisfy more employers. What can we say about the effectiveness of such a document?

Such a rushed CV is empty and has no energy and life in it. Who would be interested and attracted by it? Especially now, when the competition for good jobs is enormous? Don't think that a business document can't carry energy, it can!

Requests from different functional areas

The fact that you can't write requests from different functional areas in one resume, separated by commas, has already been mentioned several times, but I'll repeat it: general director, sales manager and development director - it's not the same. And even if you were nominally an executive, but actually put out fires in all your recent jobs, and realised to yourself that your key competence is crisis management, then write so: anti-crisis manager.

A CV without a specific query

Sometimes resume writer service gets requests to create a resume without any specific request - for some kind of administrative position in an unknown field. Usually this happens when a person has been self-employed for a long time, and now decides to return to work, but not in their field, or when they have a very diverse experience, but do not really know how to do anything (or they themselves have difficulty identifying their core competencies). Nobody will look for a suitable vacancy with such a vague message - it is purely his task.

A flat and polished resume

Causes yawning averaged and to the point sleazy functionality, as if copied and composed from dozens of similar requests (until recently, just wrote about the personal qualities: responsibility, communication skills, and teachability). This type of resume in recent years is becoming more and more common. Formally there is nothing to complain about - everything in it seems to be in place, and written competently, but behind it, you can not feel either a real person, or any specifics of his work.

Creating a resume like this makes sense only if you're a beginner and applying for a completely ordinary position. Then yes, behind the general phrases you can somehow hide the fact that your qualifications are not very high.

Know how to prioritise

You have specified the request for the position, but at the same time so detailed description of their achievements in all places of work, that they talk about everything in the world, but in fact - reports the results from completely different areas. In your CV you should focus on what is relevant to this particular query. And write everything else in other resumes for other positions. Being able to prioritise and weed out the unnecessary is an important skill for someone who is applying for a serious position, and its absence is easily read from your CV.

Clear specialisation

Strange as it may sound, this is a time of clear specialisation. Yes, companies have made staff redundant and the remaining staff are doing the work for themselves and the guy, yes, you need to be prepared in the current climate to develop your skills broadly by taking over related areas. But! All of this will matter when you are already employed. Until that happens, you need to sell yourself.
